Vaccination & Immunization Board Index

i am still stuck on this vaccine issue...and i went to other forums in the health boards like hepatitis and post-polio and read about people who are suffering from these terrible diseases and then i have to ask myself would i want my child to go through that? of course not! so i am for vaccination i guess but i just have a question for those of you who are not....what if your child didnít get protected and contacted something like hepatis? and what if you could have prevented it by vaccination? i had all my vaccines as a child and my boyfriend did too and my brother ...all my friends did, and i cant say that any of them have had a bad side effect....so there are some risks to vaccines..there are risks to everything...just like there is a risk of your child coming into contact with a disease if they are not vaccinated...i hope i didnít offend anyone i am just so confused and everyone is entitled to their own opinion...really what i am looking for here is reasons why or why not?

I think it is about maternal instinct, freedom of information, weighing risks, it is like you go through pregnancy doing everything right to ensure a healthy child and with one shot it could all change the well being of your child and you don't find out till later how much it has affected him/her because they cannot voice what they are going through because they are babies/toddlers.
StareDecisis. How common is it for a child to get HepC? ..my uncle has hep c and all it would take for someone to get this from him is use his razor with a little of his blood on it and cut themselves with it ...and i know you are thinking who would use someone's razor anyway...well maybe his 13 year old son....or maybe his daughter would grab the wrong tooth brush (making the same blood contact) then if his children did come in contact with it then play with other children....scraped knees, boo boos, you know how clumbsy children can be....as unlikely as you may think it can be it still scares me...

Ratatosk ...you are absolutly right about the fish... when i was pregnant they told me to only eat 4 oz of fish a week or less....i only had one tuna fish sandwhich before they told me that and no fish at all after they told me...

calling my health dept. really opened my eyes ...all the nurses i talked to vaccinate their children and they encouraged me to do the same

but everyone has to do what they are comfortable with although i agree with what sailmaven said in "arguments about the saftey of vaccinations" when others dont vaccinate they put our vaccinated children at higher risk....and that bothers me.
I can tell you is that there were several articles in papers in NE Minnesota and NW Wisconsin, as well as a press release that had been issued by the County health department in the area where there were several cases of pertussis and measles. This was Mid-December.

I'm planning a trip to that area in the next month or so and if there's a problem, I'm not about to take my infant, who has yet to be vaccinated for the measles.
It was kinda a case of too little too late. I don't know about the amount of adults that have no immunities because at the time that was the last thing on my mind. I didn't think to question.
I know that the study I had my son enrolled in for his first round said that after the series is done they would test his blood for antibodies to see if he actually aquired the immunities to the diseases he was vaccinated against. I don't know if that info is available, I'm going to have to do some looking.
As far as feeling most must not lose their immunity, there's no way to tell. Many adults have a strong enough immune system to fight many things, and who knows, things that turn horrible in kids may only register as a cold or something else that is not a big deal.
After you said it Winnie, I think I might request a copy of the blood work from that hospital stay and see if they tested me for any other immunities.
Don't know....I'll let ya know though when I find out!!
