Vaccination & Immunization Message Board

Vaccination & Immunization Board Index

The combination Varicella/MMR is a new vaccine and intended to reduce the number of shots a child gets since the two are usually given at the same time. Separate vaccines are still available. There is also a new vaccine that combines the DTap,Hib and Polio all in one, also intended to reduce the number of shots. If you feel uncomfortable with the combination vaccination at this age, you might consider delaying both of them until perhaps 18 months or two years. Both the Varicella and the MMR vaccines are 'live' virus vaccines and tend to cause more side effects and sometimes a mild rash like the measles/chicken pox. It is reccomended that you get two doses of the Varicella and the MMR vaccine, usually the second one at age 4-6.
