Vaccination & Immunization Board Index

The (first) MMR (Measles,Mumps,Rubella) vaccination is not usually given until a child is between 12 and 15 months of age, the second MMR being given around the age of 4-6 yrs. Mumps is usually characterized by fever, inflamation and swelling of the parotid gland and other salivary glands and occasionally inflamation of the testes, ovary, pancreas or meninges. Symptoms would occur within several days. Your child would probably have gotten the Hepatitis B,DTaP,Hib,IPV and PCV vaccinations at his two month visit and again at the four month visit. The six month visit usually consists of getting the DTaP and PCV vaccinations. At the 12/18 month visit, they usually give the third and last Hep B shot, the fourth DTaP shot, the third and last Hib shot, the third IPV (Polio) shot, the first MMR and first Chicken Pox shots (there is a combination vaccine that combines the MMR and the Chicken Pox vaccines), the last PCV shot and possibly a flu shot. The first Hep A vaccination is now being reccomended at age 12 - 18 months also. This series of shots can be given anytime between 12 and 18 months. *The next series of shots is given at the 4-6 year age range and includes the final DTap, the final IPV, the final MMR and possibly the second of two Hep A shots. At the pre-adolescent visit at 11-12 years, the Tdap, Meningitis and HPV (for girls) is given. The Hep B series and the Varicella (Chicken Pox) can be given if not previously received. A second MMR shot is also reccomended for those that have received only one. Flu shots are reccomended every year starting from age 6 months during October/November.
