If your son has never received ANY vaccinations, he will need: Hepatitis A series of 2 shots, the Hepatitis B series of 3 shots, the complete Tetanus/Diptheria series of 3-4 shots, the complete Polio series of 4 shots, the MMR (Measles/Mumps/Rubella) series of 2 shots. If he has not had chicken pox, he will need the Varicella series of 2 shots. (He is too old for the routine Rotavirus, Haemophilus influenzae type b and Pneumococcal vaccinations given to younger children) There is a combination Hepatitis A & B vaccine that may be given which would be given in three shots instead of giving them separately needing 5 shots. The vaccines that require more than one shot are usually spaced out between 1 or 2 months and 6 months.
